リグ・ヴェーダ
『言語は四個の四分の一と測定せられたり。バラモン達は熟慮してこれを知る。三個は、秘密に隠されて運動せしめられず。言語の四分の一を人間は語る。』
『されどプルシャはさらに強大なり。万有は彼の四分の一にして、彼の四分の三は天界における不死なり。プルシャは四分の三をもって高く昇れり。彼の四分の一は、下界にありて新生せり。』
ブラーフマナ
『アグニは始め四つに分かれていた。彼らが最初にホートリ祭官の職に選んだアグニは逃れ去った。第二番目に選んだアグニも逃れ去った。第三番目に選んだアグニも逃れ去った。そこでこの現在のアグニは恐怖のために身をかくした。彼は水の中にはいった。彼を神々は発見して、無理に水から連れ戻した。』
チャーンドーグヤ＝ウパニシャッド
『心臓には褐色の微細な脈管がある。白色のもの、青色のもの、黄色のもの、赤色のものなどがある。この太陽も褐色であり、白色であり、青色であり、黄色であり、また赤色である。』
旧約聖書の創世記では、知恵の木の実と命の木の実の生えるエデンの園には、四つの川が流れています。
中国の仙界である崑崙は、四階層に分かれていて、この人間の世界はその最下層にあるとされます。
この崑崙の上層には、玄武・青竜・朱雀・白虎に四方位を守護された、黄帝が住むそうです。
玄武・青竜・朱雀・白虎は別名を黒帝・青帝・赤帝・白帝と呼ばれ、中心の黄帝と合わせて天帝と呼ばれます。
中国には易経に載る、四象(ししょう)というものがあります。
太陰(吸気)・少陽・太陽(呼気)・少陰です。
太極という一点から陰陽が生じ、陰陽から四象が生じたと説明されます。
古代ギリシアの哲学者エンペドクレスは、万物の根源として、地水火風の四元素に「愛」と「憎」が作用して、結合と分離が起こると説明しましたが、愛とヨウ、憎とインは文脈が似ているかもしれません。
インドのウパニシャッドによれば、白い心臓には四方位と上方を守る五人の門番がいて、上方の道を辿ると太陽に達し、人は不老不死になるそうです。
この五人の門番は、呼気・吸気・腹気・体気・上気と呼ばれます。
四辺＋頂点で、四角錐を作れますね。
この四辺を円=球で表現したものは宝珠と呼ばれます。
ユダヤ教神秘主義思想のカバラによれば、世界は四階層に分かれていて、この人間の世界はその最下層(最外層)にあるそうです。
そしてこの四階層世界は、アイン・ソフという一点から生じます。
仏教では第八識である阿羅耶識(あらや識)を最高の境地とします。
第一識～第五識までは五感の対象世界で、この物質世界のことです。
第六識は意識界で第六感の対象世界です。
第七職はより高次の末那識(まな識)界です。
第八識はさらに高次の阿羅耶識界です。
こうして見ると四階層ですよね。
さらに八識である阿羅耶識の清浄な面を九識として捉える考え方があり、その場合の九識を阿摩羅識(あまら識)と呼びます。
これも螺旋として見れば、四角錐を作れますね。
キリスト教の十字架も、四方に伸びています。
エジプト、南米、ケルト、インドにも、十字架が象徴として存在します。
卍やピラミッドも、同じものを指しているように感じます。
【English Translation】The Mythological Research

Rig Veda
"Speech has been measured in four quarters. The Brahmins who are wise know them. Three, kept in secret, cause no motion. The fourth quarter of speech is what humans speak."
"Yet Purusha is even greater. All beings are one-fourth of him, while three-fourths of him are the immortal in heaven. With three-fourths, Purusha rose upward. One-fourth of him remained here to be born again."
Brahmana
"In the beginning, Agni was divided into four. The first Agni they chose for the office of Hotri priest fled away. The second also fled. The third also fled. Thus, the current Agni hid himself out of fear."
Geometric Truth
The Upanishads describe five gatekeepers forming a square pyramid. Kabbalah's four realms originate from Ein Sof. Buddhism’s eight consciousnesses form four levels, spiraling toward the Amala-vijnana. The Cross and Swastika point to this fundamental truth.
In the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament, four rivers flow through the Garden of Eden, where the Tree of Knowledge and the Tree of Life grow.
Kunlun, the immortal realm of Chinese mythology, is said to consist of four layers, with our human world residing at the bottommost level. In the upper layers of Kunlun, it is believed that the Yellow Emperor (Huangdi) resides, protected in the four cardinal directions by the Black Tortoise (Xuanwu), the Azure Dragon (Qinglong), the Vermilion Bird (Zhuque), and the White Tiger (Baihu).
These four guardians are also known as the Black Emperor, the Azure Emperor, the Red Emperor, and the White Emperor; together with the central Yellow Emperor, they are collectively referred to as the Celestial Emperors (Tiandi).
In Chinese philosophy, specifically within the I Ching (Book of Changes), there are the "Four Images" (Sixiang): Taiyin (Inhalation), Shaoyang, Taiyang (Exhalation), and Shaoyin. It is explained that from the single point of Taiji (the Supreme Ultimate), Yin and Yang emerged, and from Yin and Yang, the Four Images were born.
The ancient Greek philosopher Empedocles explained that the "Four Elements"—Earth, Water, Fire, and Air—act as the roots of all things, with "Love" and "Strife" causing them to combine or separate. The context of Love might be seen as similar to Yang (Yo), and Strife to Yin (In).
According to the Indian Upanishads, the white heart has five gatekeepers protecting the four directions and the upward path. It is said that by following the upward path, one reaches the Sun and achieves immortality. These five gatekeepers are called Exhalation (Prana), Inhalation (Apana), Diffused Breath (Vyana), Equalizing Breath (Samana), and Upward Breath (Udana). With four sides plus a vertex, one can form a square pyramid. A representation of these four sides as a circle or sphere is known as a Houju (Cintamani/Wish-fulfilling Jewel).
In Kabbalah, the Jewish mystical tradition, the universe is divided into four worlds (four layers), with our human world being the lowest (or outermost) layer. These four layered worlds originate from a single point called Ein Sof (the Infinite).
In Buddhism, the eighth consciousness, Alaya-vijnana, is regarded as the highest state. The first through fifth consciousnesses relate to the world of the five senses—the material world. The sixth consciousness is the realm of the mind (Manas-vijnana), the world of the "sixth sense." The seventh is the higher-order Manas-vijnana (the ego-consciousness). The eighth is the even higher Alaya-vijnana (the storehouse consciousness). When viewed this way, it forms four layers. Furthermore, there is a perspective that regards the pure aspect of the eighth consciousness as a ninth, called Amala-vijnana (the pure consciousness). If viewed as a spiral, this too can form a square pyramid.
The Christian Cross also extends in four directions. The cross exists as a symbol in Egypt, South America, Celtic traditions, and India as well. I feel that the Manji (Swastika) and the Pyramids are also pointing toward this same fundamental truth.
